GyneMiRA
2026MR


Outpatient gynaecological procedures (such as IUD insertions, hysteroscopies, and colposcopies) are frequently associated with significant patient pain and anxiety. While non-pharmacological techniques like breathing and relaxation exercises are proven to mitigate stress, clinical constraints often prevent staff from delivering them.

This research project introduces an innovative Mixed Reality (MR) prototype featuring a virtual support character (e.g., "Anna") to guide patients through evidence-based stress-management interventions. By leveraging MR pass-through technology, the system empowers patient agency and comfort without isolating them from their physical treating clinician.
Technical ImplementationCross-Platform MR Deployment:
Integrated and optimized the MR application across three distinct hardware ecosystems, tackling the unique constraints of each platform for clinical safety and comfort:
Meta Quest 3 &#38;amp; 3S: Optimized high-fidelity color passthrough and UI layer rendering to blend the virtual character seamlessly into the real-world clinic, balancing the ergonomic realities of headset weight distribution.XREAL One AR Glasses: Implemented lightweight, non-intrusive AR visual workflows, ensuring reliable tracking and interface stability despite wired connections and a narrower Field of View (FOV).Interactive Virtual Avatar System:
Developed the behavior and communication pipeline for the virtual avatar, translating clinical distraction tactics and guided breathing exercises into responsive 3D animations and visual cues.Collaborative Co-Design &#38;amp; Localization:
Contributed to a user-centric design pipeline shaped by clinicians, consumers, and Māori and Pacific partners. Implemented feature sets that allow self-selected avatars to maximize cultural relevance and inclusive patient support.

Labour VR

2025VR


Labour VR is a standalone virtual reality experience designed to support women during labour by reducing pain and anxiety.


The system immerses users in calming, New Zealand–inspired natural environments combined with hypnobirthing-based breathing guidance and affirmations. It includes two relaxing scenes — a forest and an underwater environment — where users can interact with various objects and animals, such as birds and butterflies.


The project is inspired by “Giving Birth on a Beach” (Massov et al., 2024) and supported by clinical evidence showing that immersive VR can significantly reduce perceived pain and anxiety during labour.

Immersive EnvironmentsNatural beach and underwater scenes with adjustable distraction levels and a dynamic day–night cycle.


Hypnobirthing ModuleBreathing exercises with visual feedback (expanding bubbles, unfolding ferns) and affirmations narrated with a New Zealand accent.


Hands-Free Interaction

Gaze-based selection, pinch/poke gestures, and head navigation for seated or semi-reclined users, enabling interaction with in-scene elements such as birds and butterflies.

Custom Unreal-to-Unity Terrain Conversion Tool


The art team primarily worked in Unreal Engine, and part of the environment had already been built before I joined the project. Since Unity provided better VR performance, I led the migration pipeline from Unreal to Unity. To optimise landscapes, I developed a custom workflow using exported heightmaps and texture masks, along with a Unity script that automated terrain layer painting while preserving the original visual design.

1. User Browser (Client)
Everything starts in the user’s browser.


SPA (Single-page app)&#38;nbsp;—

 A Single-page application built with React, Material UI, and React Router. Users navigate smoothly through the app without full page reloads.
AuthContext&#38;nbsp;—

Manages the global login state (including user, token, login, logout). Components can instantly access this state using the useAuth() hook, eliminating the need to pass props down through multiple layers.


localStorage&#38;nbsp;—&#38;nbsp;After a successful login, the JWT is stored in the browser as a token. When the page is refreshed, the application reads this token and calls /api/auth/me to automatically restore the user's session.
The browser does not talk to MongoDB or OpenAI directly. It only calls your backend API.
2. Frontend (port 3000)
The React app is organized roughly as:
Pages — route-level screens: favorites, my posts, profile, posts by tag.Components — reusable UI: login, post list, post detail, comments, subscribe dialog.config/api.js — base URL (REACT_APP_API_URL) and endpoint constants (/auth/login, /posts, /ai/generate-image, etc.).
How it calls the backend: Axios requests with:
‘ Authorization: Bearer &#38;lt;JWT&#38;gt; ’&#38;nbsp;
for protected routes (create post, like, AI image, etc.).
3. Backend Express (port 5000)
The API server is the center&#38;nbsp;of the system.app.js (Entry Point)&#38;nbsp;—&#38;nbsp;Main entry point. Loads env, connects MongoDB, runs&#38;nbsp;initData.js, configures CORS/JSON parsing, mounts routes, and handles global 404/500 errors.

 middleware/auth.js&#38;nbsp;—

Auth guard for protected endpoints. Validates JWT from Authorization: Bearer ... using JWT_SECRET and attaches the user data to req.user.
Routes
—    Modular RESTful APIs prefixed with /api. Domains include: /api/auth, /api/posts, /api/comments, /api/subscribers, and /api/ai. Mongoose Models&#38;nbsp;—
    Defines database schemas and handles CRUD operations for four core collections: User, Post, Comment, and Subscriber.scripts/initData.js — Database seeder that runs on startup. Automatically pre-populates default admin/user roles along with sample posts and comments.

The backend is the only&#38;nbsp;layer that should hold secrets (JWT_SECRET, OPENAI_API_KEY, IMGUR_CLIENT_ID, MONGODB_URI).
4. MongoDB (Database)
User — accounts, roles (admin / user), hashed passwords, favorites.Post — title, content, author, tags, likes, image URL.Comment — linked to post and user.Subscriber — email subscriptions.
Mongoose sits between Express routes and MongoDB (ODM: schemas, validation, queries like find, populate).

JobTrip is an intelligent job application tracking system that helps job seekers manage their job search in a structured and efficient way.It combines a browser extension&#38;nbsp;and a&#38;nbsp;web application&#38;nbsp;to automatically capture job postings from major recruitment platforms and centralize all application data in one place.

The project includes:
a user-friendly UI&#38;nbsp;for reviewing, editing, and tracking application progress,a robust backend&#38;nbsp;for data storage, synchronization, and business logic,support for JSON export&#38;nbsp;and&#38;nbsp;API output&#38;nbsp;to enable integration with external tools, dashboards, or analytics workflows,and a testing setup&#38;nbsp;to ensure reliability and maintainability across core features.
By automating job data collection and providing clear tracking and export capabilities, JobTrip helps users stay organized, reduce manual work, and make better decisions throughout their job search journey.

My contribution:


In this project, I drove the end-to-end development of both the JobTrip browser extension and its backend infrastructure. On the extension side, I built the side panel UI (search filters, location selectors, progress overlay, and result cards), implemented the multi-platform scraping workflows, and developed the data export pipeline for local JSON downloads and secure API submissions with token-based authentication.

For the backend, I architected the RESTful APIs (Express) and designed the MongoDB database schemas to manage robust job data ingestion and retrieval. Additionally, I wrote and maintained comprehensive Jest test suites for key modules—including panel logic, background/content scripts, and core services—to ensure high system reliability.

This diagram illustrates the data flow architecture of our browser extension.


First, a content script is injected into job platforms such as LinkedIn. The script executes jobScrapers.js to extract structured job information directly from the webpage DOM.


The extracted data is then transmitted to the background service using chrome.runtime.sendMessage. The background script manages the application state, persists the job data, and forwards the processed information to the side panel interface.


Finally, panel.js receives the data payload and dynamically updates the UI, enabling users to view and interact with the extracted job listings in real time.

Forklift License VR Training - S-curve2022

Developed a cross-platform VR/PC forklift operator training system in collaboration with Taiwan’s Industrial Safety and Health Association. This project focused on the second stage of the training program: S-curve driving practice, designed to simulate real-world forklift operation and safety procedures in an immersive virtual environment.


Trainees were required to drive the forklift forward along an S-curve route and then reverse back to the starting position after reaching the endpoint, replicating professional certification exercises used in industrial training.


Built with Unity and C#, the system integrated the HTC Vive Pro, Logitech steering wheel, and custom Arduino-based forklift control hardware. All simulator devices — including the hand brake, gear lever, and fork controls — were mounted on a portable wooden platform that could be quickly installed onto any desktop setup.


Programmed Arduino systems using the Arduino IDE to handle real-time input communication between the custom hardware and Unity, ensuring stable and responsive interaction throughout the VR training experience. Collaborated closely with artists and training specialists to create intuitive interactions that accurately reflected real industrial operating procedures.

To help users complete training procedures using memorized operational cues, the steering wheel, rear-wheel, and vehicle body rotation angles of the simulated forklift were calibrated to match those of a real forklift, which requires a 1800° steering range. The maximum steering range was also adjusted to better reflect real-world forklift behavior.


Most commercial steering wheel modules do not support a 1800° rotation range. Therefore, a Logitech steering wheel was disassembled, revealing a pulley rail mechanism limited to 900°. To overcome this limitation, a 1800° pulley rail system was redesigned using 3ds Max and prepared for 3D printing with Cura.

GoodFace! A Digital Facial Palsy Patient Care Application2022

	GoodFace is a digital assistive 

facial palsy rehabilitation App. The App is based on a mobile device platform combined with Augmented Reality (AR) to gamify, customize, and digital facial rehabilitation. GoodFace! has
four main objectives: to reduce burnout, to improve the accuracy of patients' rehabilitation, to record quantitative rehabilitation data, and to address the convenience of patients' medical
visits.

Using facial landmark technology, the app tracks facial features to evaluate the accuracy of patients’ rehabilitation actions and captures progress photos at regular intervals during therapy, providing a novel digital approach to rehabilitation.

This App is based on the direction of the attending physician of the Department of Rehabilitation of Cathay Hospital in Taiwan.

To solve the problem of 3D digitization of scald wounds and communication between doctors, nurses and patients, this study provides a smart, professional and friendly healing and care service platform for patients with burns.


Developed for burn and scald injury patients, the intelligent smartphone application "Healing Visage App" (abbreviated as HePh App) offers a blend of intelligence, professionalism, and user-friendliness in providing healing and care services. It introduces a novel digital approach to the tripartite relationship between medical professionals, caregivers, and burn injury sufferers, transforming the treatment of burns into a new digital execution mode.

The contribution of the HePh App lies in its ability to cater to the delicate physical and mental state of burn injury patients. Throughout the arduous recovery journey, the app creates a supportive environment, providing a sense of empathy, encouragement, and relaxation amid the pain. This elevated experience enhances motivation for rehabilitation and wound care. The HePh App is suitable for both hospital treatments and home care scenarios.


To address the issue of 3D digitisation of burns and communication between patients, this project provides a smart, professional and friendly platform for healing and care services for burns patients. The research team is working across the Interactive X Technology X Medical disciplines to develop a mobile device platform based on a new generation of high performance video coding technology, 3D image measurement technology and algorithms to develop an app for burn patients, and to use machine learning (ML) and big data concepts to serve the healing and care of burn patients through the mobile app as a medium. The aim of this project is to develop 3D scanning technology to reconstruct models of human body parts, to develop key algorithmic techniques for application in the field of burn medicine, and to assess the usability of the app so that hospital treatment and home care can be effectively recorded and consulted, and finally to predict the progress of wound healing through ML algorithms to achieve the goal of self-care. 
The study started with the compilation of existing literature on burns and burns cases, and held focus group discussions with the patients to understand their needs and observe the care process of the users, followed by the development of the app architecture and content, the construction of 3D imaging and algorithms, and the development of 3D scanning equipment. The app was developed to meet the requirements of ease of use, usefulness of content, technology-induced errors and satisfaction. The contribution of the HePh app to this study is to care for the fragile and sensitive body and mind of the burn victim, so that the injured person can find a stratosphere during the long recovery process, be understood, encouraged and relaxed in the pain, and be motivated to recover and care for the wound. The HePh app is suitable for hospital treatment and home care, and is effective in reminding patients of the need to actively treat their wounds, accelerating their healing and self-care needs, as well as providing better medical services and quality of care in hospitals. It is hoped that this app, combined with the algorithm technology, will be adopted and promoted by other medical institutions.

Crescent Project2022Video


Crescent Project is a VTuber brand created as part of a university metaverse initiative, where our professor envisioned exploring virtual identity and digital presence in emerging online spaces. The project brought together three collaborators: a 2D illustrator who designed the character art and provided the vocals, a 3D artist who built the virtual avatar, and myself as the video producer responsible for promotional content.


My role focused on crafting the brand's visual storytelling — editing promotional videos, designing motion graphics, and compositing final deliverables using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. The goal was to introduce the Crescent character to online audiences and establish a cohesive visual identity across digital platforms.
